This presentation will introduce psychologists to the field of rehabilitation psychology through the lens of stroke recovery. I will explore the common psychosocial changes experienced by individuals post-stroke, including emotional adjustment, identity shifts, social challenges, and cognitive-affective changes. I’ll also discuss how rehabilitation psychologists support patients in medical settings and highlight the intersection between physical and psychological recovery. The session will include practical strategies and clinical tips for psychologists working with stroke survivors in hospital, outpatient, and community settings. The goal is to support more sensitive, trauma-informed care for individuals navigating life after stroke.
