Topic: New Developments in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Contextual Approaches to Psychotherapy

Presented by Dr. Ned Hunter

Functional contextualism shares much in common with many approaches to psychotherapy and can enhance anyone’s approach including those who practice from an ACT perspective.  The newer approaches focus more on the function of behaviors, including thoughts and narratives.  Clinicians engage in careful observation of these functions as they occur in their meetings with clients and provide, through metaphors and other means, multiple exemplars which direct attention toward what is working and not working for them.

Edward “Ned” Hunter, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and Director of Training in the Division of Psychology at The University of Kansas Medical Center.  He has a love for training in cutting-edge developments in psychotherapy.
